More Damn Blends

My unfortunate fixation on this unpopular remix technique hasn’t yet wained, so here are few more to upset you, or trigger you, or to wonder what on earth I think I’m doing with this potentially beautiful art-form.

One of the interesting aspects of this project is that the raw materials have been being created since the beginning of recorded music. If I can find an interesting and popular cover of Chattanooga Choo choo (originally performed by Glenn Miller and his orchestra in 1941) then I will use my wizardry to slot the two together. That seems unlikely though.

The earliest songs I’ve blended are from the late-1950’s but the majority are from the 1960’s to the 1980’s; I can only assume a lot of good music was written during these years. Those who were there will remember it as being a far more exciting and unpredictable time in pop music, compared to ‘these days’, which tends to be much more saccharin and contrived. the biggest difference, these days, is the concept of writing-teams. One person hired for the top-line vocal melody, another person hired to create song structure, someone else because they had a hit last year… I much prefer music written by one person or a band of musicians who have worked together for years.

BUT ANYWAY.

Here’s a bit of something for everyone:
