Free plugins at Audio Damage

Audio Damage have been developing and releasing plugins for at least decade and, like every good plugin manufacturer big-or-small, they have a ‘sound’ and an approach to plugin to design which keeps me reaching for old favourites again and again.

I think the first one I bought was Ronin which, if I recall correctly, was initially something they could use to prototype ideas. There weren’t the regular ‘value limits’ you find in most plugins, so you could go pretty bloomin’ wild if you fancied. Over the years I found more flexible DSP prototyping environments (Plogue Bidule is my main one) but really enjoyed the simplicity of Ronin and the speed with which I could try ideas out.

They continue to update and upgrade their newer ‘old’ plugins, and bring out new ones, some of which are ‘all-contained’ versions of old plugins, with extra features. Keeping reliable old DSP available for the future.

I bought Fluid and Liquid, now Legacy, and use Fluid’s chorus on almost everything which needs a chorus/thickening treatment.

And now they’ve done the best thing a software company can do with their legacy products; they’ve made them all free! You can’t beat that as an act of kindness towards the music-making community. Obviously no support exists, but that is normal in the world of legacy software.

There are only VST2.4 and AU version of the plugins - no VST3, AAX or Linux versions. Most VST hosts still support VST2.4 so I’m sure you’ll be fine.

That’s the nubbin of this blog post. Download the free high-quality audio plugins and make more music!
