Deconstructing Synth Presets Is Very Cool
Synthesisers are pretty cool things. They make mad noises and sometimes, crappy noises, depending on the skills and power of the sound designer.
Running through the presets of a synthesiser can give you a good idea of its sonic potential, but not always - preset designers like to show off and exploit certain parts of synthesisers, depending on the sound designers’ preferences and the design of the synth.
But apart from playing the lovely presets on your synth, what can you learn from them and how do you do it? What you do is watch my video about deconstructing synthesiser presets. I look at 5 popular synthesisers (Lokomitiv, Zebra2, Serum, Alchemy and MassiveX) and deconstruct a variety of presets to look at how the sound was configured and why the preset designer made the choices which make the sound what it is.
So, if you want an insight into synth programming, and perhaps some ideas you might not have previously considered in your synth programming adventures, instead of watching a 1990’s rom-com with a banal predictable story line and questionably attractive actors, spend that time watching this:
